1. Define lymphatic system. Describe its parts and functions.

Answer: The lymphatic system is a network of lymph vessels, lymph nodes, and lymphoid organs that drains excess tissue fluid and helps in body defense.

Parts of Lymphatic System:Lymph • Lymph vessels • Lymph nodes • Lymphoid organs – spleen, thymus, tonsils

Functions: • Maintains fluid balance • Absorbs fats from intestine • Produces lymphocytes • Filters harmful substances • Provides immunity • Helps in removal of waste products


2. Describe lymph. Explain its formation and functions.

Answer: Lymph is a clear, colorless fluid formed from tissue fluid and contains lymphocytes.

Formation of Lymph: Blood plasma filters out from capillaries forming tissue fluid. Excess tissue fluid enters lymph capillaries and becomes lymph.

Functions of Lymph: • Maintains tissue fluid balance • Carries fats from intestine • Removes waste products • Transports lymphocytes • Helps in immunity


3. Explain lymph nodes with structure and functions.

Answer: Lymph nodes are small bean-shaped structures located along lymph vessels. They act as filters for lymph.

6. Explain circulation of lymph.
